Book Will Help Support Research

This post is for families and others interested in participating in fundraising efforts to support research on MECP2 Duplication Syndrome Research

About this book

Orelove-1bEducating Students with Severe and Multiple Disabilities is the latest edition of a textbook edited by Fred Orelove, Donna Gilles, and me (Dick Sobsey). This 524-page book will be used mostly in professional training programs for teachers and other professionals working with children with disabilities, and it has developed a good reputation since the first edition was published in 1987. Fred and Donna have been generous enough to join me in directing all royalties generated by this latest edition to the MECP2 Duplication Fund at the Rett Syndrome Research Trust. In addition, I was excited to hear recently that the publisher, Brookes Publishing Co., has added an additional donation.

Helping to spread the word

Sales of our previous editions have been generated primarily by the book’s reputation and the publisher’s advertising, and the book has been very successful within its specialized area. It has been widely adopted in teacher-training courses and included in the collection of many libraries and school resource centers around the world. In the past, I was a little bashful about promoting the book because I had a financial stake in it. This time, I want to do everything I can to help spread the word and to encourage sales since the royalties are going to a cause very close to my own heart.

You can help, too, if you care about this cause. I believe that people will buy our book based on its own merits, but we can help make sure that people who might be interested know about it and consider purchasing it.If you want to help, it can be as simple as mentioning the book to your friends, your child’s teacher, or anyone else who might be interested.

  • If you know of teachers or other professionals working with students with severe disabilities or school systems serving these students please consider sharing information about this book with them.
  • If there is a college or university with a teacher training program or a local library in your area, please consider asking them to consider this book for purchase. Also, please consider sharing information about this book though your own on-line network via social media.

Feel free to share information about the book in your own words, but you may also use the advertising image above or you can request a one-page PDF file about the book by e-mailing and putting BROOKES PDF in the subject line.
